How Schools Over-Complicate Writing

Great example of well-meaning teachers destroying the natural learning process. Rules are just excuses for grownups to criticize children and make them feel inferior and incompetent.
Language and culture have to change together. When we finally remember that every human, by virtue of being born, is a natural life-long learner, we will no longer want to call ourselves "teachers" in the presence of our fellow learners/ "students". Maybe we'll just drop our need to label people all together.

Lol I know this feeling. I used to write as a kid too, and as soon as I was forced to follow those silly writing charts my handwriting went down the hole and became unreadable. O.o Ended up once again "unschooling" myself to write. Now it's not only neat, but beautiful and unique. =)

I don't really have any problem with writing. I've gotten sloppier, but most likely due to rushing. But before school I was fluent in English, French and Korean. Now after school I know maybe a dozen words in french and nothing in Korean.

It is easy, I think, to help a kid learn cursive without showing him the rules of cursive. I loved playing with letters before school, and when it 'came time' to learn cursive I learned how to write my vowels and consonants just from playing with the idea of writing cursive. Mom simply told me I wrote an e and took it from there. I did, for some strange reason, enjoy writing on writing tablets. I just hated being taught to.Especially, when we switched to college-ruled paper.
excellent examples
