  • You gotta move the art somewhere lest we all become Wynton clones (not a bad goal, but maybe people want to say something for themself rather than spitting out the "right answers" for test day all the time. I think these guys are saying something different, but that is no reason to consider them hacks or unfamiliar with tradition. You're deaf if you think these guys don't understand tradition.

  • kudos.

  • The whole set up looks so sterile and contrived. Its not really a live performance in front of a crowd. You can sense a lack of spontaneity but I can assure you that this band (now with McCaslin on sax) is smoking hot. Dont judge a band or player until you actually see them A video is still not a live performance.

  • Ageed... just go check out the performances from the JazzBaltica festival a couple months ago--not to mention the Jazz Standard and Meaning & Mystery albums.

  • how come people commenting on youtube jazz videos are so critical and clueless at the same time?

  • There is very little pentatonic sound in Douglas' solo dude, I don't know where you learned the word pentatonic but it certainly wasn't at music school. As for needing to be a "no ears musician", no man. Everyone has their own taste. At least this has some musical credibility, not like, for example, Bitches Brew (which far too many people say is "Miles' best album") ... As for Dave, he's one of the hottest trumpeters out there right now ... even if you don't like the music, his sound is great

  • At first I was thinking "who are these jive turkeys with well-written music" then Dave Douglas starts to solo and I realized that these are some evil motherfuckers.

  • His finesse and clarity of tone in the upper register is so beautiful.

  • cioè, io lo vad a sentire, vi rendete conto? ho gia preso i biglietti per il concerto a roma su listicket, non potevo perdermi dave! strordinario jazz!

  • @soursourapples I'm definitely not saying Wynton is a clone. What I'm saying is that Wynton is a standard of playing that MANY try to clone. I love Wynton's playing, I don't love the gazillion others out there that just spew out Wynton's ideas as their own.

  • @vivre101 and wynton is a clone of who exactly?

  • Amazing!! :)

  • The two are directly related. People critique what they do not understand or cannot play.

  • @jhg123456 welcome to the world of snobby jazz critics... they extend past youtube too.
