The world is full of Henry Ashtons. The sort of people so addicted to wealth and power that they will shoot their grandmothers if they get in the way of feeding their addiction. All the great Italian opera guys, Verdi, Puccini and Donizetti wrote almost all their opera on this subject. The Lucias are lucky if they can live out their lives without being eaten alive. There are exceptions. L'Elisir d"Amore, and the Barber of Seville are a bit less dark. I listen because of the Dessays.
