Chris Nelson and Bryan Barker from Canyon High School basketball team are shown training at Sequoia Physical Therapy. The video shows Nelly getting a 27.5 mph jumpon. In the CIF championship game, Nelly got 19 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Video also shows Bryan Barker getting a 360 at 13 mph. His superior lateral mobility made him a great defender.

Most of the varsity team trained for eight weeks using the unweighted treadmill, vibe plate, plyometrics, isometrics and other techniques.

The unweighted treadmill training creates neuromuscular adaptations to improve first step quickness and lateral mobility. It also improves balance, ability to change directions and general athleticism. Canyon High School basketball showed tremendous team defense.

  • how fast can they run without the gear, and can they keep it up? That is the question

  • @thegamerkid77 This is a training technique. It uses muscular and neurological adaptations to improve first step quickness and lateral mobility.

  • @roncram

Dose it work, do they run any faster than someone who dose not use this method?

  • @thegamerkid77 They run faster than they could run before this training. Initially we recommend ( and the Canyon basketball team did this ) 8 weeks of training, coming in twice a week for a total of 16 training sessions. High school athletes generally improve their 40 yard dash times by 2 tenths of a second. More importantly, they improve in the first ten yards by 1 tenth of a second. Pro athletes would typically still be faster than a high school athlete who trained using this.

  • Not to discredit overspeed training, but athletes out there shouldn't be convinced it's gonna turn a slow athlete into speedy gonzales. I think it can be a good addition to training, but treadmills and harnesses don't make olympic sprinters

  • @plcollins1987 You are correct. An unweighted treadmill will not make a slow athlete into an Olympic sprinter. However the changes are real and significant. I trained football player who was the slowest offensive lineman on his junior college team and he became the fastest offensive lineman on the team. He is now playing Div I football.
