Ronnie Earl & The Broadcasters perform an original composition, "Indigo Burrell", an homage to the legendary jazz guitarist, Kenny Burrell. This clip is from a 1996 performance, taped for broadcast on German TV, where Ronnie and the Broadcasters opened for Carlos Santana.

This tune proves that Ronnie Earl is not just a great blues guitarist; he is, a great guitarist and musician. And, the Broadcasters are a great band. Furthermore, I think that Bruce Katz is Ronnie Earl's equal, with respect to skills, musical talents, etc. But for any soloist, they only shine their brightest when playing with musicians of the talent and skill of Rod Carey and Per Hanson; you have to listen to this tune a few times before you can take the time to focus on and appreciate the talents and contributions of each band member, in this video or just about any other recording.

Note: Ronnie introduces the tune as "Alabama" and the same title appears on screen but the tune is, in fact, "Indigo Burrell" as first appeared on the recording "Language of the Soul."

Personnel: Ronnie Earl (guitar), Bruce Katz (piano), Rod Carey (bass), and Per Hanson (drums)

  • Thank you Kenny Burell....

  • @davidespinosa2 sorry but that was the legendary T-Bone Walker, the one anyone copied from... especially B.B. King and other countless players such as Chuck Berry, Jimmie Vaughan, Ronnie Earl etc

  • These cats were born to cook together!

  • @juliovac It's simple -- B.B. King INVENTED electric blues guitar. But you have to see him live -- the recordings don't get the whole sound.

  • after B.B king?????? B.B king sucks as a guitarist dude.......

  • Love it!

  • After B.B. King, the GREATEST living blues guitarist. Hugely underrated. Get the CD "Live in Europe" -- that's the group in this video.

  • Great stuff. I have been a fan for a very long time. Ronnie shows it is not how many, but what you do with the notes played. Timeless music with heart and soul. If you like this, check out Kenny Burell himself.
