Inspired by what he saw in post-Katrina New Orleans, artist Paul Villinski gutted a salvaged, formaldehyde-ridden FEMA-style trailer and re-created it as Emergency Response Studio. ERS is a visually appealing and completely self-sufficient, solar-powered live/work space intended to allow artists to embed in and respond creatively to post-disaster environments.

In this first segment of a two part film, Villinski discusses Emergency Response Studio: Process, a new installation which looks at the ideas, materials, and construction that went into realizing ERS, which accompanies it in Rice Gallery. On view 29 January - 1 March 2009. More information at www.ricegallery.org
