White's Mammoth Gavioli entertains shoppers in Houghton-le-Spring's The Broadway, Tyne & Wear, England, UK as part of the 10-day Houghton Feast festivities. Apologies for the wind spoiling the audio of my video like this. It was blowing a gale there and in the windchill it must've easily been below zero degrees I should think as well. Typical Houghton Feast weather though I suppose, i.e. cold, wet and windy. I was really lucky because shortly after making this video and I got home, it absolutely chucked it down, but at least the "organists" there all had an earlier finish today for a change because of having had no other choice than to leave much earlier than usual because of this really bad weather on this the Feast's Carnival Parade Saturday.

There's a really good web site all about Houghton Feast. The address for this is:-

  • What are those things like in the middle that are moving up and down becide the brown pipes?

  • @anglerfly They're castanets.

  • Thanks, David. The organ was in fine fettle, despite the weather. An incomparable sound.

Has anyone posted any video of the Show Organ Society's other 98 key organ, the Gaudin?

  • No I don't think so, but I've heard that a lot of work has just recently been done on the Gaudin organ, and it could soon be making a reappearance - possibly this year. It'll be interesting to see and hear it again. It's quite a few years now since both it and the Gavioli stood side by side at Houghton Feast, playing in turn, & it was very interesting then hearing the Gaudin organ playing the Gavioli's music & vice versa. The amount of music for each organ to play had also doubled as well.

  • thankyou so much for uploading this....this fantastic organ is one of my favourite ever organs and ive had the pleasure in operarting it on numerous ocasions over the many years ive been involved in the wonderfull world of mechanical music........

I have thousand's of pictures ofd this organ on my website " World of Mechanical Music " if you are intersted!

    Thankyou again!

  • I'm pleased you like my video. I had a look at your web site a few weeks ago when I read a message on the iMOD Forum about it that included a link for it. I see you have some brilliant and very interesting photos there.

Please feel free to contact me privately as I have been a big fan of this amazing fairground organ for years and I have loads of photos I've taken of it myself that I'm willing to share with you.
