As a child my father gave me this book to read. it was my first experience of knowledge and my first fundamental lesson that a real life hero really exists. Hero's are Thor and his friends, just people- doing incredible things... my online nic has always been Kontiki.. the little raft seeking the truth :) Thanks Dad

Hey, I'm chilean and it's very touching to know that the kon-tiki expedition sailed chilean waters, I grew up hearing about it, not many know it in my country but for us who know it's a legend.

Love thor Heyerdhal and all his works they may not be a hundred percent accurate but probably more so and far reaching and ahead of his time than official academia which teaches under the burden of serious predudices and anomalies and wrongful assumptions he showed by practical example that aincient man sailed the seas from many places to many places going well back into mankinds stone age and world history as it is taught is unforgivably eurocentric

Kon-Tiki is a superior film to Ra, the latter of which I happen to have one of a few copies available to mankind. The whole Kon-Tiki ordeal actually, in retrospect, was inventive in the way Heyerdahl used combined knowledge from different sciences (archeology, anthropology, folkklore, biology, geography, etc). This was not common in the early post-ww2-years. It's a cheap shot just latching onto the same ol' sour negativity Heyerdahl fought already on the day. The man was, in his way, brilliant.

Thats interesting that "Kon Tiki" is more famous tha "Ra" although unlike quite boring "Kon Tiki" (which was like a nice vacation for young men after horrible war) "Ra I" was pretty tragicomic and disastrous event.
