The mixing and placement of castable investment and design of trough in a glass furnace. This Silicon Carbide furnace melts 170-pounds at a cost of approx $12/day in electricity (@$.10/kwh). This is a sample clip from an instructional video set which covers the design and construction of this type of furnace, from beginning to end. See www.mayneislandglass.com.

  • The investment means that I don't have to change the pot the moment the thing cracks. The investment gives me another year or more of use before I have to pull it out of there and cast another one into place.

  • castable... the least amount of water possible

rule of thumb .. take a ball of castable and throw it up and down in hand ..should almost break apart in clumps that is about how you need it ..your mix looked really wet ..

  • I made it sloppy because I had to force the curved form on top of it after placing.
