This time we have a little something for the sysadmins out there: Synology's DS1812+. Because who doesn't need a NAS that JUST WORKS?? It has 8 bays and can connect to 2 additional 5-bay dummies, bringing the total up to 18. But it's not just about the hardware- they also have some extremely useful web-based software of apps.

PRODUCT: DS1812+
-COMPANY: Synology
-AVAILABILITY: Q1 2012
-PRICE: ~$1,000
-FEATURES: 8 bay NAS, 2 USB 3.0, 2GB ethernet

  • Ok, I think I finally found a NAS that I'm going to buy. A lot of NAS'es that do kinda suck, and mainly ones that are just ridiculously expensive once you go 4+ bays. This one 8 bays for under 1k. YES!

  • This is kinda sick. I could do so much with this

  • it doesn't look like the dsm 3.2 interface, seems to be the new dsm4 system.

  • @dayl3 synology and qnap are pretty much identical but synology seems to have the better support & community. @darren the synology dsm 3 has been around for years...including the surveilance centre etc, but the default torrent and download client is crap and wont seed...

luckily there's great user made packages so you can run great apps on it like transmission,sabnzbd+,sickbeard,headphones,couchpotato,... making it so much more usefull ( planning to upgrade my ds110j to a ds411j soon :p )

  • You deserve more views! You rock Darren!

  • I grabbed a DNS-323 on fire sale for $100. You can chroot a debian environment on it if you really want more flexibility than it has out of the box.

  • uhhhh i want that! gimmy!

  • I love mt DS211j!!!!

  • liking the GUI, but still lovin' me Qnap
