the japanese model is actually alder acording to fender japans website, unless thats a mistake? I know mascis says on a youtube clip that its basswood but i think that was just the american release of it

I did have problems with the buzzing, put one on, well worth it, sound is definitely improved. Not so much through the amp, but without it. Great playing, awesome looking guitar for the price. ($800 on ebay)

You should only change it if you start having problems I think the buzz stop is more for the older style bridges
