My Choice 343 - Percy Faith: A Summer Place (Theme)

The "Theme from A Summer Place" showing photos of Malta. This song was composed by Max Steiner for the 1959 film, A Summer Place, which starred Sandra Dee and Troy Donahue. It was recorded for the film by Hugo Winterhalter.

Percy Faith recorded the most popular version of the tune, which spent an at-the-time record of nine consecutive weeks at number one on the still-young Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in early 1960. It remains the longest-running number-one instrumental in the history of the chart. It reached number two in the UK. It hit number one in Italy under the title "Scandalo Al Sole".

Faith won a Grammy Award for Record of the Year in 1961 for his recording. This was the first movie theme and the first instrumental to win a Record of the Year Grammy.

Although our lives took separate paths, whenever this song plays I remember dances every Sunday afternoon in 1964/5 and a prom and the love of my life. And she does, too. Malta would be great if there's time for a 2nd time around. Cherish the memories - and that song, too.. Thanks for posting.

Perhaps you should consider visiting this island in the future. The music by Percy Faith is very nice and it's a melody that will e around for a long time. Regards from Malta.

I enjoyed looking at all these pictures from Malta. Some friends of mine from England used to vacation there , and they said it is a beautiful place. And it's nice hearing Percy Faith's huge hit playing here too!
