Furlough Fridays were initiated by Governor Linda Lingle three years ago, on Sept. 18, 2009, when Lingle signed an Executive Order that ended up cutting 17 Fridays from the school year calendar. Hawaii State Senator and parent Jill Tokuda and Hawaii parent Kathy Bryant remember Furlough Fridays and discuss why Mazie Hirono is best prepared to serve as Hawaii's next U.S. Senator.
