This is a video of one of the live steam trains my father built at the track owned by the club he belongs to. I'm running the engine from a riding car hooked up behind the tender. This engine was built in 1971 and was the first engine my father built.

This clip was started in the middle of the back loop of the track, which is on an elevated trestle. At the end of the video I had to stop because I had to throw a switch to get back on the main line. The video picks back up in the next clip right after I threw the switch.

If I get the chance next summer I hope to be able to record video of his other engines at some point.

The club he belongs to is based out of Indiana/Cincinnati and is called The Cinder Sniffers.

  • How could anyone leave bad comments on such an exciting video!! I would love to see this engine for real. And I wish more people could appreciate all the joys and excitement that live steam offers, the engine is practically alive! Great video!

  • @mechanicsnut There weren't any bad comments. paullubliner simply mistook the engine in the above video for a similar kit build engine. There was nothing negative, just a case of mistaken identity. :)

  • @mechanicsnut Bad comments? CVLS Chula Vista Live Steamers - Fall Meet '09

  • @paullubliner I think you misunderstand me. This was not a kit engine, it was scratch build by my father in 1971. The only parts of this engine that were purchased were Little Engines casting sets of the drivers, sand domes, and steam dome which were for a 3/4" scale Hudson, and the valve gear which was for a 1" scale Hudson.

The engine is a J3 Hudson, not a J1, and is indeed suppose to be a NYC engine.

The NYC logo on the gear was add by my father because he liked the look.

  • @paullubliner actually it is a NYC Hudson. That was the exact engine it was modeled after. In fact there are NYC logo plates on the side of the valve gear
