@cilaboom Hi! It is of course protecting the drivers from damage. Because it is integral part of the design, the acoustical effect is minimal and taken into account in the total design.

Man I would love to buy a set a speakers for my computer system. But damn they're so expensive.. I haven't even checked to see what a 5.1 or even 7.1 surround sound system would cost.
