It was when Adam told Grace that he had cheated on Joan and Grace just stopped walking and said "What?" or something and he stopped as well to explain what had happened.

No they didn't. Joan found out that Adam cheated on her and they broke up. Apparently they would have gotten back together in season 3 but they never got the chance.
