Snowman Trek, Bhutan - Laya. Scenes from a remote village in the far north of Bhutan, many days' walk from the nearest road. Traditional houses and rice terraces, dancing round the camp fire, children dressed in ghos (traditional clothing) playing football, stray dogs, special pointed bamboo hats, and departure from camp with horses. Oh, and yet another log bridge.

  • looks awsome man, and none of em work lol and they still own the houses

  • None of them work? Certainly they work. For photos of villagers at their various tasks - including weaving, gathering crops, building, milking cows and shopkeeping - see the link on the right (it appears by clicking on 'more info').

As for owning the houses, they build them themselves. Usually the villagers will get together and pitch in to help a family when a house needs to be built, in return for later favours. Most of them will learn the basic building skills from an early age.
