This is not really shocking actually... Sure, he's put a deadline on the table for a public option for healthcare (which he has been talking about vehemently since the beginning of race to the presidency and for which there has been years and years of debate and foundational legislation for), but that does not even begin to correlate with the Patriot Act. The PA was unprecedented and introduced in chaos on October 12th, 2001 and signed into law on October 26th. This comparison is bogus!

Not so bogus when you compare it to how the stimulus package was ramrodded through. The parallels are actually quite valid at that point.

And 'unprecedented' - seriously? You may want to go back and look through some of FDR's 'emergency' bills if you want precedent. Look, not defending the PA - it was a vile assault on civil liberties - but let's not pretend the current admin is any better. It is not.
