Here's something for you to see... the swinginist wagon that'll ever be... you've never seen a car to compare... to the Lark Daytona Wagonaire!!!

If you enjoy it, send a dollar to the Studebaker National Museum, www.studebakermuseum.org. I visited there in 2006... check out my online story at www.weekenddriver.com and look for the "Great Car Museum Tour Blog" button.

And if you're touring in Southern California, check out my book and the rest of the web site at www.weekenddriver.com.

  • What year is this?

  • Studebaker introduced the Wagonaire in the 1963 model year. It stayed in the lineup until Studebaker passed away in 1966. This commercial is from the 1963 model year; I don't know if it was filmed in 1962 or 1963.

  • Oh my goodness this car would put me in Nerd heaven. It's beautiful, I don't know why the rest of the world doesn't think wagons are sexy.

  • Sweet!

  • Oh...so that's where the idea for the GMC Envoy XUV came from!

  • My Uncle owned 1 of these back in the day,of course He worked there!

  • I am one of those rare oddballs that loves old station wagons....i used to have a chevy nova wagon. Man, would i love a studebaker wagon

  • Children in back... Darwinism at its peak.

    -.-

  • @weekenddriver He only ask the year of this. not the whole history.

  • @kznte I still got my Matchbox collection with that same car. The sliding roof was a great idea at the time, but they were very prone to leaks. The design no doubt could have been improved on if Studebaker wasn't so cash-strapped which unfortunately led to their demise. Being a Chevy guy I must admit they did build some great cars.

  • Many years ago, I had a matchbox car just like this with the sliding roof. As a station wagon enthusiest, I can tell you from experience that today's modern cars can take some lessons from icons of the past such as this car.
