  • you don't have to worry about pith in a branch to do small bowls?

  • Good tips, but, if you bore out the pith, then rough turn the bowl. Once you have a shape defined, stick the bowl in a paper grocery bag with the wood shavings for a couple of months, then re-drill the hole in the pith, plug it with similar wood and finish the turning. Sometimes, the bowl will crack beyond use, but sometimes you get a neat effect with the graduated concentric rings in the bowl. It's a bit tricky, but doable.
