Who invented the Turbocor...................hey that would make a good name for a compressor brand don't you agree
-
I did a big presentation on the turbo-core chillers back in college. (I have a B.S. in Engineering).
Just a quick question because I've forgotten... Does the compressor rotor assembly rest on the magnetic bearing surface when not in use?

Trane is so far behind in chiller technology, it's not even worth discussing.

@tohellwithit1 you're right

How would they control thrust movement on this machine? It would have to match the load properly and be taken care of. It looks like a surge would push the shaft through the end bell ..lol

Trane should have bought into turbo-core when they had the chance :(

Turbocor is the brand name from Danfoss. They invented the compressor and it is a wonderful design. Daikin McQuay designed a higher mass flow compressor that is used in our chillers over 400 tons. We just released the 700 version a few weeks ago. It containing one centrifugal compressor and one motor with an external refrigerant cooled VFD as standard.

The compressor rotor backup bearings support the Turbocor rotor when power is off. The larger McQuay compressor on the WME chiller has the same support.

The chiller performs well above 75F Condenser Water temperature.
