Of course they are not poor, they just want to stand out of the crowd, to be inovative, or they are just bored and having fun on the streets.
Actualy reminds me of Joshua Bell (famous virtusso violin player), who sang in WashingtonDC subway 45minutes on one of the most expensive violins in the world(300yars old Stradivarius - i belive it's named Hubert ex Gibson)
