Including more homes in redrawn flood plain maps would not help the National Flood Insurance Program overcome its debt problems, FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate told a House Committee in April (continuing coverage at www.coastalcontractor.net). Mississippi Representative Gene Taylor pressed Fugate to address conflicts of interest within the insurance industry. Taylor says insurers unfairly denied windstorm claims and dumped the costs of Hurricane Katrina recovery onto the Federal Treasury.
