  • Where do you get your metal?

  • @ChevyTBlover From a local industrial metal recycling firm that buys and sells all kinds of scrap metal. They have a large pile of scrap aluminium which they sell for 3 euros / kg. Sometimes you can find pieces which still have the protective plastic attached.

    The pile : i.servut.us/i/IMG_0193.jpg

  • Chatter as it did the channel cutout?

Same issue as I have then.

  • @1kreature Yes, chatter is an issue when cutting aluminium, especially with 2 flute endmills. Here I was using one with 3 flutes, though.

Some more experienced machinists thought that I plunged the endmill too fast into the material and clogged it, causing the crash.

  • i think it broke...

  • @metalfusionf nice, where is it located? damn you're lucky :)

  • your using a cast alum, it is much easier to machine a billet and is usually cheaper, and yes a small oil or misting coolant would work great with alum. But with that machne with lack of rigidity you did very well. i was impressed.

  • u need liquid with aluminum!
