Who's the best freshman in the greater Hartford area? There's Kuran Iverson at Northwest Catholic, but don't forget Kahlil Dukes of Capital Prep. The latter scored 34 points Monday night. What was most impressive was that the guard did it against Kolbe Cathedral, a quality team. The Cougars under former UConn great Chris Smith, won easily 92-66. But Dukes played hard and shot well (13-23 overall, incuding 5-12 on three-pointers).
Some of the interested spectators who saw Kolbe Cathedral trounce Capital Prep 92-66 Monday night included: Andre Drummond, former Capital Prep center who's at St. Thomas More; East Hartford guard Anthony Jerningan; South Kent guard Danny Lawhorn, who was at Hartford Public last season; former Capital Prep guard and career scoring leader Stephan Holley, who's red-shirting this season at Post College; and Dave Sytulek, whose Middletown team plays Kolbe Dec. 29.
Kahlil Dukes, showing few jitters for a freshman guard, scored 34 for Capital Prep (2-1). He was 13-for-23 from the field and hit 5 of 12 three-point attempts.
