Obviously one of my all time favorite opera's is Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, so it should be no suprise that I wanted to revisit this opera for this contest. I tried to use differnt selections where I could to add a little varitey from the last Lucia Contest. I hope everyone enjoys. Again a score of 1-5 for singing/characterization:

Luciana Serra - 1986
Anna Netrebko - 2000
Mme. Richardson - 2000
Ruth Ann Swenson - 1989
Ruth Welting - 1985

  • ok, you asshole people need to realize a few things because your comments are ridiculously dumb: first, this video is from 2000, and last time i checked it'll be 2009 in a few months, and in my opinion, 9 years is a lot of time to improve, don't you think? second, the video quality is so low that you can't see her acting anyway! and even so, she's a much better actress NOW. third, there were a few netrebko-ish spots with the runs, but only like 2, and the ornamentation the 2nd time was great.

  • Some people think about that too. My thoughts are she is extremely beautiful as an opera singer and that itself is a bonus which not other singers have. She also has a beautiful voice, less technique. She has a beautiful voice too that some singers don't have, they have perfect technique, yes, but not the beautiful voice.

  • this cadenza in the end is great, I love it

  • Traviata - Ms. Netrebko displayed ample power, coloratura bravura with a marvelous tone Having recently heard Natalie Dessay sing Sempre Libera at the Met Gala, one was impressed by the legato nature of Netrebko's portray in contrast to Dessay's intentional staccato, fragmented phrasing interpretation. Having also seen photos of Fleming in her current Violetta at the ROH, one can only marvel at Netrebko's resilience, endurance and commitment to bel canto opera.
