@nubihotep I don't think that all of the new stuff needs to be psychodelic, long, or "avante garde" but it definitely has a lack of sound imagery so to speak. Much of today's accepted Mainstream music is TOO formulaic. Classical music and Jazz made a great influence on rock in creating "soundscapes" and "movements". This currently doesn't exist in mainstream Rock or R&B. The good thing is that real "earthy" down home blues is making a comeback with The Black Keys and Gary Clark Jr!!!!

Unparalleled Epicness!!! I hate to compare or mention new music to stuff like this but sometimes its hard not to,& to wonder why today's music can't compare to these immortal sounds.I think the sense of taking us on a musical journey is what many of the new bands/musicians are lacking. Many of the newer (mainstream bands rely on TOO much on over-bearing GUITAR)and don't experiment enough with other sounds like synths,horns, exotic instruments and percussion.They don't create "soundscapes"

I can never get tired of listening to this track. Floyd had a very difficult job to follow up DSOTM, then they surpassed themselves with this masterpiece. And it still manages to send shivers down my spine 36 years later.
