Yet another version of Dizzy's "Night In Tunisia" - this time with a mezmerizing vocal by Sarah Vaughan.

Nice & dark. :)

The personnel for this December 31, 1944 session are:

  • How are you getting such good sound on this upload? What camera do you have? The mic is really good, the full fidelity of the recording really comes across....

  • Actually, this, along with my other "live" record recordings, is a straight line recording to a Hi-8 camera - reason for all the hiss is the irritating auto leveling on the camera - definitely when a mixer comes in handy. ;)

Other than that, thank Grado for the amazing cartridge (model 78E) and 3 mil elliptical needle. :)

  • Hi, This was cut on December 31, 1944 in a 5 song session with Dizzy's band. Interlude, No Smokes Blues (two cuts), East of the Sun, and Signing Off.

    Great upload, thanks so much!

  • Right on - thanks for the correction on the year and the exact date. :)

I'll change the header & description immediately.

  • Dizzy KICKS!!! As does Sarah!

  • Yeah, Sarah really galavnized the band - I've never heard a Dizzy-led band, studio or otherwise, sound quite like this.

Wonderful early stuff from the both of 'em.
