@missiondigitalseema btw it's allowed to be on the left side of the patient while palpating the left kidney by bimanual method to be easier or in hooking method for examining the spleen otherwise, you must be always at the right side of the patient

if u r left handed it is allowed to be in left side

You do not need to be at the right side of the patient in attempting to ballot the kidneys. It's a bilateral structure. You need to be at the right side of the patient when palpating the liver/spleen.

That guy's pants are entirely too big for him.

Fools you cannot palpate (or catch the left kidney on the right side. It is the ONLY time that you move from right to left side. Notice for his percussion he went back to the right side. Thanks for the video.

@zuhairi59 not during kidney palpation though

@infntecheezcake It's only tradition to be on the right side of the patient. (I suspect the origins can be traced to overcrowded hospital rooms where there was only 1m of space between beds of two patients so there had to be a general consenus which side belonged to which bed.) It's not like a black hole will appear if you happen to do something while standing on the patient's left. Besides, left-handed doctors will probably find it easier to do most examinations standing on the left side.

@tannim101 thats how doctors are.. I am a nursing student and i dont like how doctors wont use PPE when needed. I had a cdiff patient and the doctor just walked in there without any precaution.

@missiondigitalseema all of this should be done on the right side of the patient, however when palpating the left kidney is the only time the examiner can go to the left side of the patient

@hopefulbeef - Infection control isnt only an issue for invasive procedures. It also occurs with skin to skin contact transmitting pathogens between patients, commonly C.Diff, MRSA and stuff like Noro virus, or in this case with shirt sleeves acting as a fomite. Search "Bare Below the Elbows" if you want more info...
