Special Olympics Opening Ceremony Leicester 2009

Just a quick one from my follow spot position. This is the Special Olympics Opening Ceremony. One of the final acts as you can see had these amazing costumes and three different coloured dragons which looked awesome in the lights!

My mum and the youth group she works at are the tea cups! xx

you have to imagine the radio chatter on the night between the followspot operators and the stage manager:

SM: "follow the tea cups"

Me: "what tea cups?"

SM: "Next to trees dancing near the dragon..."

Me: "infront of the giant puffin?"

...

I wish i could've recorded that!

I am the person pushing the wheelchair! I was asked at the last moment to help out as the "volunteer" disappeared.Thats why I am in orange not a costume!

You didn't look out of place, though the thousands of people in the stadium watching you in the stadium must've been a bit intimidating!

The company on the stage are Movers, Leicester's own Learning Disabled Theatre Company. They are currently working on a new piece called 'Visitor' which will premiere in June 2011.

I was also going to control the Red Dragon with the Mahogany group, but due to some changes of height i wasnt able to do it. :(

I performed in the opening act with Nupur Arts, The Jai Ho peice. Croud was fantastic, loved every minute, from coming out of the tunnel to going back into the tunnel :) x
