The average schmuck would give a damn and just toss them in the garbage.
Also, a lot of these bulbs are made really cheap these days, and "blow up" prematurely. I know someone who showed me two bulbs that broke very quickly.
Lastly, the industry makes a lot of money by intentionally reducing the life span of their products.
My family and I replaced some bulbs with flourescent ones and they are just as bright. Their worth it since they save alot more power and you dont need to replace them as much.
I'm not very environmentally friendly. I use two 100 watt Reveal bulbs in my bedroom. I tried to use them around the house, but everyone else complains on how bright they are.
