The Mayan culture predicted an apocalypse by 2012. The Bible includes stories about the end of days that some associate with these times. Leonardo da Vinci
had predictions too. Something is coming; we can feel it. The end of the world?
The Greek root of apocalypse means, "lifting of the veil". It is this we are
confronting now. Forced out of our cocoons, we emerge from the whirling
chaos we sensed over the past years only to be confronted by more questions.
Who am I? Where do my emotions come from? What is society and how does
that notion fit within me? Strange days. What is the purpose of life? Some get
a glimpse of nothing. Literally 'no thing', and are scared to death.
In answering these questions, we are waking up to real RL (Real Life) and
seeing beyond the veils. This casts doubt on established social and moral
frameworks; values lose their original (imposed) meaning, as we determine
what is true for us as individuals.
This moment is a culmination of the shifts we've gone through in the past
dozen years. We feel stuck and realize we have no room to move. Literally we
have painted ourselves into a corner. But we're sick and tired and we don't
want to wait for the paint to dry, so we break out! For some this means
punching through the wall and for others it means ending their days. Children
and young adults, having the questions 'pre-installed', are the most adaptable
of us all, and strike at the cage wall as if it's just part of another game. Still
others will call it a fad, a passing trend (as they did when the Internet came
about).
These are the people who sneered when we all went to psychotherapy, they
scoffed at our late-night discussions about life and its meaning, and the roles
we play in it. In any given film our role is our choice. Figuratively speaking,
these people become 'time/energy suckers'. They're not interested in selfinquiry,
but rather avoidance. Ironically, it will be these people who will want
instant short cuts to self-awareness, later on.
In the decision, in the act of breaking through the walls that corner us, our
tolerance for bullshit drops to nil. Screw the time-suckers, the inter-social
games, the gossip, the parties, political promises, in short all that is superficial.
Political leaders who have proficiency in diplomacy and who are conscious of
these shifts are few. We drop status quo notions cold turkey, and with them
many of the politicians as well. Selecting who and what we let into our
awareness is the theme. Advertisements, programs or people we don't want to
see or hear we simply filter out, like spam in our inboxes. Of course, television
viewing is on the decline.
We are adapting, evolving, having new experiences, and grow into them in the
process. For example, learning to ski is easy for someone with a supple being --
falling and getting back up is no issue at all; you just do it. After losing one ski
into a river, you have to find a solution: go get it and risk your life, learn to ski
with one, or stop the game!! Appreciate the choice.
These choices extend to 'work' as well. Within the workday there are moments
for daily quiet, and well-equipped fitness rooms allow us to spin off energy
whenever we feel like it. Workplaces become second homes. Taking 'time out'
between tasks at work and over meals like breakfast and lunch becomes a way
to acknowledge employees as people. Homemade meals and attention to
slow-cooked healthy food makes these people feel part of the team.
And benefit packages such as these will be strong incentives for others to
come and work with companies. Workers realize that through focused team
achievement comes independence. In the beginning we acknowledged
ourselves for a job well done with no outside praise, and now employers are
rewarding us with a piece of the cake.
Others will take sabbaticals this year to travel and come to our questions, our
answers, and outline the limits of us. Some will go back in time, reassessing
old habits and tools to determine their usefulness for today. We'll rediscover
the function of antique inventions and combine them with what currently exists
-- giving rise to true innovation. With these tools, we can move in different
ways, and envision the world as we wish.
These are figurative glasses we're wearing, and with them we can choose
which associations to draw. The truth is to be found in a freely flexible being,
which we can bend to discover different facets of ourselves and others as well....
We have to fall to get back up. Spread your wings and fly. http://WWW.TRENDSLATER.COM
