Quality Meats: Flesh Straight Jacket by Michael Taflove

While walking through a Ralphs supermarket at 4am , you come across the most unholy of abominations... trapped in a straight jacket of their own flesh... surrounded by pulsating intestine... putrid corpse pile... crawling disembodied torso with no legs: Welcome to my mind!

In eons of darkness, eyes have become flesh, and arms bound in flesh, and only flesh remains!

Silent Hill in the Supermarket:
This animation was inspired by the Patient Demons from Silent Hill (also known as the Lying Figures)- demonic mental patients trapped in a straight jacket of their own flesh! And what better place to find such creatures, than Ralphs Supermarket at 4am?

made for a Matchmoving course at Gnomon

Software used:
Autodesk Maya -- polygon modeling the base meshes for Zbrush, animating, rendering, etc...
nCloth -- used for a ragdoll effect on the corpses (airbag preset)
Maya Paint Effects -- undulating intestine
Zbrush -- modeling, sculpting, Zapplink for some texturing
2D3 Boujou --matchmoving (raquetballs cut in half, used for tracking markers)
Roadkill -- UVs
Photoshop --texture
Adobe After Effects -- compositing
Genarts Sapphire -- compositing
Adobe Premiere -- audio, digitizing
Sony HDV camera -- DV production (sneaking into Ralphs at 4am with cameras, getting kicked out)

I did this using 4 render passes:
ambient occlusion, color, shadow, and reflection -- I was considering a Zdepth pass but decided against it
