In France, somewhere between Grenoble and Chambéry, I strapped the camera to my bicycle's front left pannier and went along a rural road. Unexpectedly, I arrived in a town next to a motorway. I had read the map wrongly and was lost (fortunately just a little off track).

Music is two slightly different versions of 'MX' by grapes, sampling Miel of BOCrew performing 'Recommencer': http://ccmixter.org/media/files/grapes/10547 These are followed by the raw 'Recommencer' itself: http://ccmixter.org/media/files/BOCrew/10441 They were made available under a Creative Commons licence for non-commercial use with attribution.

I don't like towns and cities, so I used the bleaker sound of the spoken word piece for that scenery. But hopefully you'll feel better at the very end.

  • Great Video! Combining Miel's awesome voice with a summer bicycle video in Southern France is a real treat!

If you do a night-time bicycle video in a big city, feel free to use my darker techno mix of the same song, available on ccmixter. I think it would fit great :)

  • Hi, I really like your version too. I used it in a video of a downhill run, but I didn't like how it turned out so I made it a private video. I've set it to public again for you :) See "To Begin Again" in my videos - I'll send it in a YouTube email too. Thanks for your comment!

  • haha! no one there!

  • Is this the Alien Country where the Coneheads live?

  • That's not to say I can't appreciate cities, by the way. Budapest, Paris and Edinburgh are my favourites, but I'd still rather be in the countryside around them.

  • They seem like scars on the landscape. We tragically dig up, cover over and destroy what was there for millennia, in order to live cramped, stressed lives. I think we're better when we're spread out among the rest of nature.
