These girls are not crow hopping, they are leaping! If you look in the ASA, USSSA, IFA rulebook it will talk about leaping off the rubber. Unfortunately, in 2011 each association has changed the rule a little on leaping. Now it is at the umpires discretion on to call it, but if you ask most umps they will tell you as long as the toe is pointing down it wont be called.

what i dont get is that the ump calls unnoticable illegal pitches and these pitchers are so noticable and they dont get called for it

When the pitcher REPLANTS and pushes off that airborne foot...its a crowhop....I havent seen any of the girls in this vid CROWHOP. All of the examples are ILLEGAL pitches. The coach should talk to the ump, and verify the foot drag in the dirt near the rubber if they want the ump to call it.

Some of these comments are interesting. I umpire many levels and divisions of fast pitch softball. Every single pitch here is illegal. Some of the issues are ill informed umpires not knowing the rules, informing a player that as long as the toe is pointed down it is legal. The other issue is umpires not calling it to not have everyone complaining they are taking the game out of the player's hands. Some umps don't want to argue, especially during tourneys.

It is interesting how US Softball rules differ from international rules (Rules that Softball USA have to play by in international tornaments). Leaping is allowed by the ISF and is a normal part of Fast pitch. There is also no difference between womens and mens rules. (There are only distinctions between fast pitch, slow pitch and modified pitch). My home country (Australia) decided some years ago now to go fully in line with the ISF rule book (especially with pitching).

I get my pitchers to stride out to 20" beyond their height. Example if my pitcher is
5'5" or 65" tall she gets out to 84", that's seven feet..
