  • I saw this series on DVD few months ago then. I was weary first because I thought "oh no, series about Romans, who cares?" but it had Derek Jacobi, whom I had seen as Frollo in 1980's version of Hunchback of Notre Dame and thought he was brilliant. So because of him I watched it. Thank God I did. Wonderful series. Every actor suits his/her part. Far better than any epic million dollar Roman empire movie.

  • I just finished watching this, again. It's stunning this many years later, very well done. Sian Phillips rocks. :-)

  • best show ever i loved it awesome actors

  • this was sooooooo bad! i mean there werent even a single car chase or explosion just ppl talkin all posh to each other i mean WTF! LOL FAIL

  • I can't think of anyone else as Claudius. Jacobi was awesome.

  • @Aussiemarco I was surprized when I heard about it myself. All we can pray for is a director who's a real fan of the original who gives a damn about it and good historical consultants too, if they're going to remake this.

  • @HistoryLover1550 WHAT????????? They're remaking THIS????????? Nothing is sacred :(

  • I hope HBO/BBC's remake of 'I, Claudius' does the original justice and expands more on the story of the Julio-Claudian family.

  • Derek Jacobi's THE BEST!!!

  • @sondano They might exaggerate his physical problems, but more generally he appeared to be perfectly normal if he was just sitting down but as soon as he talked or walked you could see something was amiss. That's why they didn't have to *hide* him, only keep him out of interacting at functions.

  • @OutlawCongress I'm not sure how to imagine that combination LOL. So what you say is that in I, Claudius they actually exaggerate his disabilities?

  • @sondano Claudius actually *looked* normal - a tall and physically fit man. It was only when he walked or talked or twitched that you could recognize it.
