Medicinal and aromatic plants are invaluable biological resources used in both traditional and modern health care systems. This video features the learning experiences of schools and school children that volunteered to pilot an initiative on 'Promoting Herbal Gardens in Schools' in Nepal, launched in observance of the International Year of Biodiversity 2010. The video is intended to encourage more schools and students in the Himalayan region to adopt the initiative and establish herbal gardens in their schools. In the process, young people will learn about the names, uses, and cultural and economic value of medicinal and aromatic plants, and how to manage these resources and the biodiversity they represent. It is hoped that this video will widen efforts to replicate and further strengthen this child-centred, conservation-oriented, awareness-raising, and fun-filled practical initiative across the Hindu Kush-Himalayan region.
