Gumnaam (Urdu for "unknown" or "anonymous") is a 1965 Bollywood film directed by Raja Nawathe and starring Manoj Kumar, Nanda, Pran, Helen and Mehmood.
The plot is an uncredited adaptation of Agatha Christie's novel, "And Then There Were None", and the title song "Gumnaam Hai Koi" borrows (again uncredited) from Henry Mancini's theme tune from the Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn movie, Charade.

The film came to wider attention when its opening dance item number Jaan Pehechan Ho (a Hindi phrase roughly translatable as "We should get to know each other") was featured in the film Ghost World. The dance features singing by Bollywood legend Mohammed Rafi and wild head-shaking dancing by Laxmi Chhaya, neither of whom appears again in the film. The infectious Hawaiian-style beat of the music and the sixties atmosphere of the nightclub have gained the sequence a cult following....

Even during the radio days, music programs on Radio Ceylon(Srilanka) were more popular than any other Indian Radio station and I always wondered why it was so. Your explanation answers that question as well.

@bxj55 - In addition to what I mentioned in above comments, what I understand is that those olden days, India was following the "close economic policy" and broadcasting movie songs been considered as "commercial".
So Indians themselves, started broadcasting those songs [in programmes like Geetmala] from Sri Lanka make using Radio Ceylon, THE Broadcasting Stationin of Sri lanka and much later shifted the whole operation to India.
By that time, we have already been addicted to them. LOL
Thanks.

But Yuanji, I am really fascinated by your background. But one question still lingers: How did you manage to understand Hindi films and their sensitivities so well that you have been able to choose the best gems? Further, are HIndi movies so popular in Sri Lanka? Or you are exceptional thanks to your international lineage? Sorry for not being able to resist my curiosity.

@chitta64 - No worry my dear friend. I will answer to all your questions briefly.
1, I [majority of Sri Lankans] do not know Hindi/Urdu.
2, Hindi films/songs/artists are very popular in Sri Lanka for generations.
3, I have learned music, Western and Eastern both. So I know the value and "difficulty" of Hindustani music. That I have mentioned in my profile too.
4, We Sri Lankans always go for the melody and melody only, so naturally we pick the best!
Hope you got an idea now.
Take care.

Dear Yuanji, your selection is wonderful, only a little less wonderful than- hold your breath-your screen name. Are you a China lover? Otherwise why would make a mantra of the Chinese currency? Only joking. Never mind. Please keep up your good work of entertaining us. Thanks.

@chitta64 - Thank you my dear friend for your kind words. Many friends have asked me about my Chinese user name.
Actually, my late father was from China and mother is a Sri Lankan.
I am now a Sri Lankan citizen and live here in Colombo.
By the way, the word Yuan has many meanings, including [as you too have mentioned] Chinese currency.
Take care.
