I had a similar experience.
That lead me to start creating my own characters and eventually my own comic series.

I bought Brotherman comic at Odunde Festival Philadelphia in 92 or 93. I bought two brotherman comics, one SectorNauts, and one Heru- Son of Ausar. I would of bought more but all I had was ten dollars at the time.
