Storm Begins - Fayetteville, Arkansas - Ice Storm 2009

Taken Tuesday early afternoon, the ice storm had been building since Monday evening with freezing rain turning to sleet. With rapidly dropping temps and steady freezing precip for a solid day, some of the trees were already beginning to give way under the strain and snap.

After the storm passed, this is what was left:

We had a warmup today, Friday, temps got into the 50's, most all of the ice melted and many of the trees finally rid themselves of the weight and sprang back up. However, a great many trees were simply too damaged to revive themselves in the sun today.

My car got stuck at work and I had to walk home that day.

Wow, that sucks! Good thing you got home, though (hope it was in time - before things got too cruddy). I went over to stay with my mother since my father was stranded in Eureka (they had a bunch more ice/tree damage that we did), but I got there on luck & a prayer, as the roads were pretty messed up already.

I agree! This is the 2nd bad ice storm I've been in, and listening to trees break every minute of every day, for days, is really surreal (and really sad).

i hated that storm. but look on the bright side THERE WAS NO SCHOOL FOR A WEEK OR 2

picking off ice on my truck for about two hours, then sliding home, they closed the store down, everybody was freaking out!
