Taken Tuesday early afternoon, the ice storm had been building since Monday evening with freezing rain turning to sleet. With rapidly dropping temps and steady freezing precip for a solid day, some of the trees were already beginning to give way under the strain and snap.

After the storm passed, this is what was left:

We had a warmup today, Friday, temps got into the 50's, most all of the ice melted and many of the trees finally rid themselves of the weight and sprang back up. However, a great many trees were simply too damaged to revive themselves in the sun today.

(apologies for the blue tint to everything - camera was misbehaving)

  • My car got stuck at work and I had to walk home that day.

  • Wow, that sucks! Good thing you got home, though (hope it was in time - before things got too cruddy). I went over to stay with my mother since my father was stranded in Eureka (they had a bunch more ice/tree damage that we did), but I got there on luck & a prayer, as the roads were pretty messed up already.

  • Very surreal listening to the branches fall

  • I agree! This is the 2nd bad ice storm I've been in, and listening to trees break every minute of every day, for days, is really surreal (and really sad).
