Way to go, Steve, those colors are amazing. Sorry the big bowls didn't come out for you.
But good test tiles for your copper matte, so not a total loss! Thanks for sharing your processes!!!

All in all a good firing Steve, some good, lively pots there. Your daughter's pot looks cute, well done to her!
Thanks

Mixed results indeed, but interesting non the less. In particular, the cranberry colour you've achieved is wonderful. Really vibrant.

Nice video, my friend! I thought when you banged the pail with the bowl, it was not a good sound! :o) Too bad. Some day I have to try raku and your setup seems quite well thought out.
Great video! I agree that your set up is very well thought out . How long would you say it the pots are in the kiln before they are ready to be pulled out? Do you slowly increase the flame? or just ramp it right up?
Thanks for all the great posts,
regards,
Sue.

I usually warm up the kiln with a low flame for about 30mins with the largest pot to fired in from the start to limit thermal shock. then i increase the flame to max. the first pots take about 1 hour 30 mins.I usually judge by eye when it is time to take the piece out if you look into the chimney hole you will see the pots start to shine, when you can see a reflection in the surface its time. each subsequent load takes aprox 20-30 mins to mature. Hope this helps. regards

Great video as always Steve. Is there a particular reason for the varied results, or is it just par for the course when doing raku?

raku always has its breakages but I compound the problems with always trying something new .I suppose I could reduce the losses if I stayed with the tried and trusted methods but where's the fun in that.
