Lie-Nielsen Toolworks, Inc, which designs, manufactures and sells a wide variety of woodworking hand planes and tools, held 2 days of interactive demonstrations in the Building Construction Technology's area during January 2009. This demonstration, presented by the Homestead Heritage School of Woodworking, shows how to make a perfect mitered edge for a picture frame by using hand tools and no nails.

  • The skill that man had with hand tools is incredible.

  • @Postie218 Well, you don't need THAT plane. Just use a normal bench or block plane (regular or low angle No. 4, 5, 6, 7 or regular or low angle block plane) or whatever you have. The result depends on how well the plane has been tuned (flat sole, wings 90° to sole etc.), how accurate your shooting board is and how well you can do this task.

The important part of this video is: 1. Cut the miter, 2.shoot it to get it perfect (or as good as you can get it)

  • Yeeeeah, ok, five hundred bucks for that shooting plane. Who has money for that ?

  • rip saws arent that much

  • @MrMeanderthal - Yes, IF. It not negate the fact that THIS joint may or may not have been a true 90 degree joint. Remember, If a frog had wings it may not bump it's ass every time it jumps. - - I always check my work even though I use proper technique and jigs along with good tools. As good as I am, sometimes I find something else caused an error. - - Of course it is never me. lol

  • @specialks1953 if the shooting board fence is a true 45 then the joint will be a perfect 90.. no need to check it.

  • "I'd love to see you work on that." "Yes, I've got it here."

  • I am sure it was really a square joint but it would have been nice to see the joint alligned with a square to show it was not a degree of few degrees out of square. I know, I know, I am being picky but the title says PERFECT.

  • that tool chest is nice

  • ACCBCT needs to make more videos.
