In this peace, which may surface elsewhere as credited to the Segasega band, the versatile Omollo is in a straightforward praise singing benga mode. His most famous song is the legendary LUNCH TIME, already on YT. Microscopical social observation, an acidic humour which translated into biting commentry and acerbic satire in the urban setting, made his songs rule the airwaves in their day. His voice is still instantaneously recognisable; so too his benga style which is distinct from the other maestros then, Collela, Misiani, Ramogi, Olwete, Origo.

The Mr. Agoya series poked fun at the bewilderment of modern urban men, frustrated and disoriented by this new world in which women bossed men, and a man could nolonger rely on the services of a wooden bar to rule his women beastlywise like his grandfather did yesterday in the countrysides.

Then there were the reconcilliation series which taught the wife-beaters how to sweet-talk the locked thighs of their battered darlings open, or how to plead reluctant pants off the buttocks of angry city wives.
And Gabby would do it all in 5 minutes without laughing. More later.

  • Wuod luo itiyo tich maber. Ruoth omesi ndalo!

  • For those who understand Luo, this is probably one of the best songs to ever come out of Luoland. I remember Apollo Komesha because the band was a regular presence in our village especially around Christmas time.

  • Omollo Gaby JaUgunja used to play at our village every Christmas Day. That was a happy childhood. I actually used to attend the concert for the music. I remember my uncles would be busy chasing after girls all night long.

  • Very good stuff, reminds us of those good old days. I'm happy that Gaby is still a live and was recently recognised as a shuuja by the Kenya govt.
