I figured I'd make this little How-To to maybe help others out there unsure how to go about changing their engine oil on a newer HD Sportster. Hope it helps someone.

  • Great video, man! One quick questions: Where did you by your saddle bag, or whatever it's called? Thanks.

  • @reimundomejia Licks cycles. They make some real nice bags and other bike gear.

  • excellent video mate, helped me a lot thanks....

  • @mithigarcha1 You're welcome

  • you did not let clean oil run through the bung. To prevent cavitation. Sometimes a bubble can get caught in the t- fitting on the oil line and cause a restriction in the oil system.

  • @dirtydirty56 There are 4 lines that come from the oil tank. 3 from the right side of the bike and 1 on the left side. The 3 from the right side are the vent, feed line which is on top of the oil drain line, it runs to the oil pump, and the last hose on the right side is the oil drain. It runs down to the bottom of the bike to the plug. The line of the left side is the return line. Refer to section/page 1-11 (oil change) and section/page 3-104 (engine) in the 2007 HD service manual for details.

  • I've had a lot of problems with my nightster kickstand spring. Has yours ever become loose and let your stand hang? I replaced the spring with a brand new one but it didn't change anything.

  • Thanks man

  • Very good and helpful.

  • Hello...Just got my little sportster and this is very helpful. Never changed ANYTHING before, but was told that she needs to be upright. Is this necessary? Couldn't tell if you had done that? Anyway...appreciate this...going to try it in the morning. Plus, is the synthetic oil better on a fairly new bike? She only has about 3000 miles on her...Thanks, Bridgette

  • Great video. Thanks bro!

  • Use some aluminum foil under the filter before you remove it to prevent oil from dripping on the engine.

  • Very helpful, thanks!

  • I've watched at least a dozen different videos on the same topic, and I have to say, yours is by FAR the best. The lighting and video are perfect. Really easy to see what you're doing, and see the parts. You really did a great job on this video!

  • How often do you change your oil? If you don't ride often what would be the time frame? Every 3 months?

  • Great video. excellent picture quality. Do you prefer a synthetic or a regular oil for the sportster?
