i agree with the death theory. the closer they get to the robots on the screen the creepier they get. i feel more comfortable with a far away shot of them in a similar way that i'd feel comfortable being farther away from a threat of some kind (like a rotting corpse or dangerous animal).
I really enjoyed this series. It was very informative and seems as though its references to social psychology (TMT) and neuroscience (mirror neurons) were really spot-on. I disagree with the comments that the speaker was dull. I thought he was quite capable.
I find the robot at 0:37 a work in progress. But my daughter will think aliens will pop out of the skin any moment. Even Santa Clause looks scary to her.
Fascinating subject made boring by the professorial lecture. I am a professor, and I teach linguistics which is very technical, but my students consistently rate me as making the material come alive. Come on, Karl. You should know by now that lecturing is not how to do this
I agree that he'd be a poor presentor in an academic context. However, here, appropriating the academic genre makes him seem intellectual, credible, rational (in a space that is usually sensational, incredible...etc).
