I seem to recall reading this concerto was a favorite of Brahms. I have always been a big fan of Grumiaux but I love Perlman's recording of Viotti 22 just a little bit more - from his cd "Concertos From My Childhood". I do however find it interesting to listen to alternate recordings so I can compare how one performer interprets something in contrast to how someone else interprets the same piece.

I have uploaded rare out of print and unreleased recordings that are difficult to find, I hope you like them.

Since they are so difficult to find no one should mind me uploading them, if you have issues with me uploading them please send me a message and I will remove them.

  • Too bad it gets cut off before the movement finishes! Thanks for posting! I love the expressive and romantic tempo fluctuations. Too often interpretations of Classical pieces are too sterile. This is very nice.

  • it cuts off because you tube only allows for 10 minutes of music but there are no notes missing - just watch the second part i uploaded

  • Thank God, I found it!! Great Recording!!

  • I think I like this Grumiaux recording over the Perlman recording. I think Grumiaux has a deeper sound, has better phrasing, but sounds less exciting because of the slower tempo. But the thing that's most remarkable is that Grumiaux plays less romantic, which makes it sound less cheap than Perlmans recording does. That one has just too much glisandi and such.

  • what a great musician

  • Does anyone know which cadenza he plays here?

Thanks for uploading it, have been searching for outstanding performances of this piece.

  • Edo de Waart (the newly appointed conductor of the Milwaukee Symphony) conducts the Concertgebouw Orchestra.

Philips SAL 3804; 839 757 LY is the catalog #. I think the recording is circa 1969-70. When the recording was released most interest focused on the Michael Haydn Concerto in A, then newly discovered and premiered by Grumiaux.

  • it's a beautiful piece indeed, but i like perlman's version more

  • i'll have an examn with this piece next week.:)..i hope it will be okay:)...it's so beautiful..i really enjoy
