Slingbox Tuner demonstration.

Using cable Internet connection at the source and destination. Data upload and download speeds are 1,500 KB per second.

I'm running the Slingbox player on a 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo destop PC with 3 GB of memory and a NVIDIA graphics card with 1 GB of graphics memory. I'm using a 19" LG Flatron LCD monitor with 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and a 2ms response time.

I use my Slingbox tuner to watch cable television at my condo streaming from my main house 50 miles away. Works great and I highly recommend the Slingbox family of products. Slingbox hardware is very well constructed and durable with a solid metal housing. Slingbox software is very stable and user friendly.

Best part is Sling Media does not charge any monthly fees!!

  • I have comcast cable and 4 mb upload but where I live it's only 1.5 mb down, should this be fine for just basic cable over the internet.

I'm also thinking I should just get the slingbox tuner since I don't want to rent another cable box.

  • @fataldesain The better the upload speed the better the reception at the receiving end. If your recieving end gets a continuous stream of about 2200 KB per second you will have resolution as good as I show in my video. The Slingbox Tuner I show here is discontinued and it only has an anolog tuner using my basic cable with no cable box. The new Slingbox HD has both analog and digital tuner and streams HD locally. Digital tuner will provide clearer at even less than HD resolution. Hope that helps.

  • @fataldesain At 1.5 mb download speed you will have a fairly good picture and will have to alow Slingbox to automatically adjust resolution. At 2200 KB per second over the internet I get a good VGA picture and can't tell the difference compaired to when I use it on the local network using my wireless G router at about 4500 KB per second. As long as enough data is streaming to buffer a full VGA screen at 30 frames per second, having a faster stream will not give you any better resolution.

  • @fataldesain I recently bought an lcd HDTV to replace my 32" analog Sony traditional TV. I discovered on my COX basic cable there are several digital and 7 HD channels as part of basic cable without a cable box. If you bought the new Slingbox HD ($299) with analog and digital tuner you will get the digital channels also and they should be clearer than the anolog channels at even lower than HD data rates over the internet. However, the analog channels have been very clear as you see in video.

  • @fataldesain Feel free to ask me any other questions about Slingbox, I would be happy to aswer them if I can.

  • Do u connect the slingbox to the modem & to the tv??? R there extra charges other than the internet connection? thanks

  • No extra charges other than the Internet charge. Cable TV coax goes into slingbox cable in connector then RJ45 connector to router. TV signal is packaged into IP switched packets over the internet to my other cable modem at my condo 50 miles away. Connect computer to cable modem and ready to go. It works great and never had a problem. Its been about a year. The upload speed is most important because cable modem upload speeds are slower than downlod speeds. Thanks for your comment!
