In this video, we see the very heavily laiden dredger 'Gateway', heading out to sea to her designated position at sea to offload silt from the inner harbour sea floor. The Gateway sails under the flag of Cyprus. Phase 2 of the dredging of our harbour also incorporates the use of a second dredger Phoenix 1 in conjunction with the Gateway. This dredging is in preparation for the arrival of larger, post panamax sized vessels. These 'post panamax' sized vessels are classed as such because they are too big to fit through the Panama Canal. In my other video, 'Happy River and Gateway' this is the Gateway on the same day, returning from her designated site to offload silt from the sea floor. From when she went out to sea and until her return it was about 1 hour.
The work of both the Gateway and the Phoenix 1 is due for completion in november 2010. Enjoy!

Night time video of the Phoenix 1 coming soon!

  • Were did you see this ship?

  • @Thecomingg Fremantle Port, Western Australia.

  • Is very interested in, what is it that boat?

  • @2306Punky this boat is like a giant vacumn cleaner... it picks up all the sand on the sea floor, so, when it is finished, the sea will be deeper so bigger boats can come into our shipping port of Fremantle.
