The World Pāḷi Tipiṭaka for Sri Lanka, Thailand, & Sweden
On March 6, 2005, Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, Honorary President of Tipiṭaka Presentation Worldwide, graciously presented an inaugural 40-volume World Tipitaka Edition to the Presiden of Sri Lanka in Colombo upon a presidential invitation. On August 15, 2005, two inaugural sets were graciously presented by the Princess to the President of the Constitutional Court of Thailand in Bangkok and the Vice-chancellor of Uppsala University in Sweden.
The Consitutional Court of the Kingdom of Thailand is the only national institution in Thailand that have received the the World Tipiṭaka from the Honorary President.
In the West, the Kingdom of Sweden has proved itself, domestically and internationally, to be the promoter of peace and wisdom-based deveopment, as well as having been in the forefront of intelligent, responsible social and environmental protection. The Dhamma Society discerned that the Kingdom of Sweden would be the first and the most appropriated country in which to entrust the most Sacred Text of Theravada Buddhasasana, for preservation, and for development of a truely wisdom-based culture.
In 2005, Princess Galyani Vadhana, the Royal Matriarch and Honorary President of the World Tipitaka Project graciously presented the World Tipitaka to Uppsala University upon a formal request from the University Vice Chancellor and Chief Librarian of the Carolina Reiviva. The Royal Presentation Ceremony took place in Bangkok on August 15, 2005 and on September 13, patron members of the Dhamma Society made a Tipiṭaka Pilgrimage to Sweden to hand-over the royal gift of Tipitaka in Roman script to the Library Carolina Rediviva, Uppsala University, Uppsala, in Sweden.
With this smooth and simple handing-over process, the World Tipiṭaka Edition has come to a happy conclusion in the west, after 50 years from its first inception of the Great International Council in Burma, including 6 more years of proof-reading as well as database-formating between 1999-2005 in Thailand.
The Pāḷi Tipiṭaka is a gift of Dhamma and Peace for the World. Dhamma Society welcomes participation and cooperation from Peace-loving international community worldwide.
