American violinist Stefan Jackiw performed as special guest artist for the Harriman-Jewell Series Prelude benefit dinner on Monday, September 15, 2008, at the Carriage Club in Kansas City, Missouri. The third of three works performed was J. Massenet's Meditation, transcribed from his opera Thais. The pianist is Dr. Calvin Permenter of William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. The other two works are also available on YouTube. Mr. Jackiw will return to the Harriman-Jewell Series for a full recital on September 26, 2009, at the downtown Kansas City Folly Theater. Visit www.hjseries.org for concert information. Permission from the artists was granted to post this video.
---> Second favorite performance after Vengerov.

Jackiw's playing is definitely beautiful and expressive, but this is just a little too ad libitum for my taste.

I like your phrasing, but the harmonic rhythm kind of got thrown out the window. It's just so slow. I really like your playing and think you're awesome, and as a testament to that, I would expect you to do a more intelligent rendition of this piece.

I got to see him live this past weekend. He was flawless and great to watch. He gave us an encore too. :-)
